ABOUT ME

“All DECISIONS ARE MADE WITH CHILDREN IN MIND” is the motto of this vivacious, energetic educator.  A product of the Detroit Public School System, she has shown her love, loyalty and commitment to Detroit Public Schools by remaining an advocate for educational excellence her entire educational career.

Ms. Bessie Harris graduated from Murray-Wright Senior High School.  After high school graduation she pursued the career path of nursing.  Her desire to help mankind landed her at Shaw College and Grace Hospital School of Nursing.  She realized that healthcare wasn’t what she wanted but she did still have the desire to help her fellow man.

After deciding to leave the healthcare field she looked to another career path in Education.  She then attended University of Detroit for Special Education.  Graduating with a degree in Special Education Learning Disabilities and a minor in Emotional Impaired Education she was excited and ready to go.  She accepted a job offer with Detroit Public School District and became a Learning Disability Special Education Teacher.  She was later promoted to a Special Education Resource Teacher.  After serving years in this capacity, she felt she was limited in the number of students she was able to impact.  She decided to return to school to take her love of education to another level.  She received her MA degree in Educational Leadership from University of Detroit Mercy.

Ms. Bessie Harris retired on June 1, 2016 after devoting 32 years of service to Detroit Public School and the children of Detroit as a Special Education Teacher, Assistant Principal, and Principal. She is the proud mother of 3 boys, Michael (Deana), Charles (Sharnita) and Airrington who she so fondly refers to as MY 3 Sons.  She is the proud grandmother of 3 Granddaughters, Micah, Sidney and Symone. She is a proud member of the following organizations:
